Dubious Origins of the Bible
-
The Bible was cobbled together by
various committees of clerics beginning with the Council of Nicaea
in 325 A.D. and continuing through many councils thereafter.
There was no consensus. They couldn't agree on the doctrine of
the trinity, whether Christ was "created" or had existed for all
time, and various other theological fine points. Why are there
exactly four gospels (out of the many available) in the New
Testament? Because, as St. Irenaeus explains: "There are
four principle winds, four pillars that hold up the sky, and four
corners of the universe; therefore, it is only right that there be
four gospels." Even if certain biblical authors were
God-inspired, there's no assurance that the Dark Ages mystics who
compiled the Bible selected the correct canon.
-
The 27 books of the New Testament were first put forth as the
correct and only Bible canon by
Athanasius, Bishop of Alexandria in 367 A.D. By this time, no
original manuscripts existed. Only bits, pieces, and copies. To
put this time gap of ±367 years in perspective, consider that
if Jesus had died the same year that George Washington became
president, our great-grandchildren 100 years from now would still
be waiting for the New Testament to be assembled!
-
The 27 books selected by Athanasius became the Western
Catholic canon. The Eastern Orthodox churches accepted the 27
books plus a few others. The Coptic church had the most books of
all. Strange that BoJo harps so constantly on the inerrant,
infallible Word of God -- when the Bible was anthologized by the
Catholic Church, which BoJo regards as the anti-Christ.
Is that a crown, or is it fiesta time in
Bible land?
-
Martin Luther, without whom Protestantism and ultimately
fundamentalism would not exist, believed that
James, Jude, Hebrews, and Revelation should not be
considered canonical. He did believe that a non-included book, the
Shepherd of Hermas, should be included in the New
Testament.
-
The inerrant, infallible Word of God? Matthew and Luke
contradict each other on the genealogy of Jesus, but both trace
his lineage through Joseph. If Jesus was immaculately conceived by
the Holy Ghost, he would have no human ancestry on his father's
side. The four gospels cannot agree on the last words Jesus spoke
from the cross nor on the wording of the sign on the cross.
It's impossible to reconcile the resurrection accounts of the
gospels -- when Jesus arose, who was at the tomb, whom he appeared
to, etc. The Bible even contradicts itself on whether
salvation is by grace or by works (or both) -- which is the very
theme of the Christian Bible.
ATTENTION CHRISTIANS
Are 2000 year old people
walking
the earth today?
And
he [Jesus] said unto them,
Verily I say unto you, That there
be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of
death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with
power.
-- Mark 9:1
Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which
shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man
coming in his kingdom.
-- Matthew 16:28
So likewise ye,
when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the
kingdom of God is nigh at hand. Verily I say unto you,
this generation shall not pass away, till all be
fulfilled.
-- Luke 21:31-32
God's Bastard Grandkids
The Bible is infallible, so of course you believe that
God has
many sons, right? Here's
another reference to God's sons, which has them
fornicating with humans (bet you didn't know the whole God
family was dysfunctional). The offspring of such unions
must have been at least semi-divine -- God's bastard
grandkids. Today millions of their semi-divine descendants
would have to be walking the earth. As for Jesus, the
Bible says that he was the only BEGOTTEN son
of God -- not the ONLY son. Of
course, you already knew that, and you believe it
whole-heartedly -- right?
And when you say your
prayers at night,
I know you always remember to ask the Lord's
blessing on the zombies
